Frequently asked questions

about the services we offer
Can the skin get burned during laser hair removal?

When the therapist is well trained and experienced in this field, the skin cannot be burned. DERMA’s therapists have many years of experience and have completed numerous trainings. The devices we work with – Elysion Pro, PrimeLase and Candela GentleMax Pro Plus – are the new standard in laser hair removal. We remove unwanted hair from all skin types (phototypes 1 to 6 on the Fitzpatrick scale) all year round. With a diode laser, hair removal can be done in summer too.

What should be done before and after laser hair removal?

  •  First, you should remove hair only by shaving for 30 days before the treatment (it must not be plucked). This is necessary because laser hair removal targets the hair follicle itself, which is missing after plucking, making the treatment pointless. The day before each treatment, shave the hair smooth or trim it with scissors or a trimmer. You need to do this yourself at home!
  • The hair must not be long, so that the laser energy, which needs to penetrate the follicle, isn’t scattered. The fact that there is no hair on the surface and you can’t see it burn doesn’t mean there’s no effect. The hair follicle contains enough melanin to attract the laser energy.
  • The skin must be free of all make-up (powder, foundation, blush, etc.). These products contain pigments that attract additional laser energy, creating a risk of burns. The device we work with is designed for year-round treatment. You may be in the sun a week before and after the treatment, but of course you MUST always protect yourself from the sun, especially right after the treatment. As a precaution, we recommend a high sun protection factor.
  • It is recommended not to use self-tanning lotions for two weeks before the treatment. Depigmenting creams can be applied to heavily pigmented skin up to one month before. Exposing the skin to the sun, tanning beds or UVA rays is contraindicated in the week before the treatment.
  • Avoid any exfoliation or peels for at least one week before the treatment.
  • Do not use a sauna or steam room for 48 hours before and after the treatment. After the treatment, any hair removal method other than shaving is prohibited. About two weeks after the first treatment, all hairs in the active growth phase begin to fall out. Over time new ones may grow – these are “dormant” hairs that were in the resting phase.

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal in Burgas at DERMA aesthetic center is performed with top-class devices – an effective, safe treatment with long-term results.

Laser hair removal has many advantages. The principle is simple yet sophisticated: it uses light generated by special laser diodes. The light energy is converted into heat and absorbed by the pigment inside the hair, called “melanin”. This achieves targeted damage to the hair follicles – the tiny tubes from which hairs grow. The result of this localised damage is slowed or completely eliminated future hair growth.

Which body areas is the treatment suitable for?

Laser hair removal is suitable for all skin types, all body areas, all genders and all ages.

The treatment can be performed on one or more hairy areas, including: full arms, underarms, full legs, intimate area, back, face, areolas, abdomen.

The only condition is that the laser must not be aimed directly at or right next to moles. To ensure this, the practitioner first marks and covers these areas, excluding them from the laser’s working field. On your first visit to DERMA laser center you will receive advice and a consultation on personal planning of your laser treatments to meet your needs as precisely as possible.

How do I prepare for laser hair removal?

Preparing for the treatment is extremely easy. You only need to take care of two things:
+ Avoid direct sunlight for a week.
+ For extra protection and a better effect, always shave the hair the evening before laser hair removal.

Epilators and waxing are not recommended, as they remove the hair from the root, greatly reducing the laser’s effectiveness.

If you have questions or feel unsure – we have good news!

Every first consultation at DERMA is free, and you can ask us about anything on your mind!

Is there any recovery period after laser hair removal?

There is practically no recovery period after laser hair removal. You’ll be free to return to your normal daily activities without any delay or special care.

You only need to follow the advice to avoid direct sunlight for the next few days.

Between treatments, remove hair only by shaving or with depilatory cream. For a while, avoid removing hair from the root.

How soon will I see the first results?

Some of the hair will be eliminated after the first 14 days. Depending on the area, type and density of hair, the growing hairs are expected to fall out completely within up to four weeks after the treatment.

To achieve 100% smooth skin and remove all hair, usually between 6 and 10 treatments are needed, depending on the individual case – including following the treatment intervals!

What does laser hair removal feel like?

Some clients feel nothing at all; others describe a slight “prickling” which, however, can in no way be described as painful.

As the hair burns, you may hear a slight “pop” and notice a faint smell of burnt hair – signs that the treatment is going as expected and will deliver the desired results.

Unlike older technologies, the professional PrimeLase and Elysion Pro devices work equally well in summer and in every other season.

The only thing to keep in mind if you start treatments in summer is the rule of temporarily avoiding direct sunlight, which is important for a good final result.

How many treatments are needed for laser hair removal?

After the initial course of treatments, the effect lasts from one to five years. Maintenance treatments are done after a year and a half to two years, extending the effect indefinitely.
